The British Pharmacological Society and the Australasian Society of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacologists and Toxicologists published a joint statement in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology ,calling on researchers to apply clinical pharmacology principles in search for safe and effective treatments for COVID-19. The statement was endorsed by organisations* across the world, including the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, American College of Clinical Pharmacology, European Association for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and Asia Pacific Federation of Pharmacologists, and more.

The statement welcomes international efforts to safely expedite clinical trials in the search for a treatment for COVID-19, setting out five principles to guide research efforts to help increase the chance of success to identify potential treatments.  Unfortunately, many studies in progress do not include information to safely translate a treatment from research to effective clinical practice.
